HM&B Secures a Defense Verdict in lawsuit seeking over $200 Million in damages after Three-Week Trial

Deauville Hotel Property, LLC

Plaintiff, the owner of the Historic Deauville Hotel in Miami Beach, Florida, claimed that the firm’s client, a manufacturer and supplier of commercial HVAC equipment, caused an electrical arc and fire in the Hotel’s electrical system in July, 2017. The Hotel remained without power and out of business since the incident. Plaintiff sought over $200 Million in damages for lost profits and the cost to restore the Hotel to its pre-incident condition. After a three-week bench trial that began on May 10, 2022, the Judge agreed that none of the equipment or services provided to the Hotel by the firm’s client caused the electrical arc and fire. HM&B partners Schuyler A. Smith and Bradley A. Silverman and HMB Associate Jamie Nakoa were the trial lawyers from the HMB Trial Team who secured the defense verdict for the firm’s client.
