Jairo Lanao is a partner in the firm’s Miami office. Jairo is a trial attorney with decades of experience in litigation, legal consultation and insurance defense work handling high volume and high risk complex liability matters. He has an extensive background in personal injury. Jairo is recognized for his disciplined case evaluation, strong courtroom presence, and strategic management of high-exposure matters.
In his lengthy career, Jairo served as in-house counsel to two Fortune 500 insurance companies. In this capacity he was highly successful handling auto negligence, general liability and personal injury protection cases and conducted several jury trials.
Jairo has managed claims arising from personal and commercial insurance policies regarding auto negligence, general liability, No Fault, and property damage statewide, from inception to trial readiness and is well-versed in complex coverage issues.
Prior to joining the insurance defense industry, Mr. Lanao worked as an assistant public defender in Miami-Dade County where he first chaired several misdemeanor and felony jury trials.
Jairo first obtained a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree at the Universidad de Los Andes in Colombia, practicing several years in the civil-law scheme abroad and later, obtained an LL.M. and then a J.D. degree at the University of Miami School of Law. He was an adjunct professor at the UM School of Law from 1999 through 2020, teaching courses in press freedom and civil-law contracts. He has also been a guest lecturer at Florida International University’s Center for Administration of Justice and Criminal Justice Department presenting on diverse topics regarding the US justice system.
