HM&B Participates and Sponsors Brownsville Middle School Law Academy Law Day 2024

On May 2, 2024, after a pause due to the pandemic, the students of Brownsville Middle School Law Academy hosted a commemoration of American Bar Association – Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Center Law Day 2024 (May 1) celebrating the theme, “What Makes A Good Judge.” With the support of the law firms of Hamilton Miller & Birthisel and Weiss Serota Helfman Cole + Bierman, P.L., the historic middle school and its ground breaking academy welcomed judges from the 11th Judicial Circuit and US Southern District to share thoughts on their professional journeys and their perspectives on what makes a good judge in the courtroom. After hearing from the judges present, the students conducted excerpts of a mock trial of a cyber bullying case. The Law Day commemoration also remembered the life and contributions of the late judge Hon. Marcia Cooke, US Southern District who dedicated the opening of the new mock courtroom for a civics and legal studies curriculum at the school. Our thanks to the many judges and attorneys who attended and kudos to the student participants who have set their sights on a future in the legal field. Let us all strive towards a common goal of justice and equality in our nation.
